Go Samantha!!

I signed Samantha up for soccer thinking she would have so much fun! But after her first practice, she didn't want anything to do with soccer! Nothing! Nada! Zilch! I felt so frustrated and upset because I didn't want my money to go to waist! The next 2 practices she missed because she was sick and we had family visiting and had too much going on that day. So the first game came and she still didn't want to play, not even try! But I knew that Jake and I had to keep trying, keep bringing her to practice and the games, and hope she decides to get out there and play. So Jake and I kept practicing with her at home and she started to feel more comfortable with it. I took her to her next practice and she still wouldn't practice with the other girls and her coach. So her and I just had our own practice off to the side of the field. Then toward the end, some of the girls ran up to Samantha and started talking to her. They talked about Littlest Pet Shop, Webkinz etc and then they all started kicking the ball around! I was amazed and so happy! I thought to myself, I think she's going to play in the next game! So the next day was game day and when we got there, she was still acting nervous and shy again. But then Jake told her that if she played in the game, he would buy her a Littlest Pet Shop toy. It worked! She went out there and had a blast! And she was pretty good too! She attacked the ball and made 2 goals! Oh what a happy mother I was!! She just had this big smile on her face the whole time having so much fun! So yes we bribed her, some people may think that was not the right thing to do. But we were desperate and knew that all she had to do was try it. So hopefully she won't need a bribe again to get her to play next time. I don't think she will, because she had so much fun! Go Samantha!

That is so cool! Way to be persistent! I still do the same with Britt sometimes.

hey Lisa! I finally found your blog! Not that it was hard to find. I just wasn't really thinking when I tried to find it. But anyways, that's so cool that Samantha was able to have fun. and I wouldn't call it a bribe at all. Its a reward for trying something new. kids just can't be expected to do something for the sake of doing it, they might need a reward system to help them at first. That's what allowances are, right? and nobody says allowances are bad. When I worked at the daycare, they were really against giving the kids candy for being good because it was "bribery" but I say you can't expect a little kid to clean up his mess for the sake of being responsible and cleaning it up. You have to train the kid up to that.that's called developing, geez. okay, now i'm just venting. better go. see you.
